Wonderland

The circus came to town again today,
They looked for you in that place you used to stay,
Someone said you drew a winning hand,
Now you spend your days down in wonderland.

You sent a note and said you'd meet me there,
I packed my books and the money for the fare,
I said I'd come, at least that's what I planned,
But I couldn't find my way to wonderland.

Chorus:
But broken love's the only kind I know,
You can plant a seed but you can't make it grow,
I never thought I'd come to understand,
How so much can change between here and wonderland.

I heard your name from someone on the street,
I walked on by just staring at my feet,
They say that you hold stardust in your hand,
And you're doing fine down in wonderland.

Chorus:
But broken love's the only kind I know,
You can plant a seed but you can't make it grow,
I never thought I'd come to understand,
How so much can change between here and wonderland.

There's a dark-haired girl who sometimes looks my way,
And I take the time to listen if she finds the words to say,
But I think of you, each time I take her hand,
And now I've promised her we'll go to wonderland.

Chorus:
But broken love's the only kind I know,
You can plant a seed but you can't make it grow,
I never thought I'd come to understand,
How so much can change between here and wonderland.
